The aim of the legal medicine course is to teach theory and best practice in

 

1)      dentistry professional service by Ethics, Code of conduct and Italian Laws in order to Italian deontological, penal and civil code: informed consent; tutelage of patients with mental capacity, crimes of main interest for professional service; report to judicial authority causality; abortion and medically assisted procreation;

2)      thanatology by law: death pronunciation and declaration;

3)      recognizing forensic pathology: blunt trauma, shaped wound, gunshot wound, asphyxia;

4)      Italian Health Care and Social Security System;

5)      Ethical, penal, civil and administrative responsibility/liability  

Knowledge and understanding

The student:

- will know the main ethics, code of conduct and laws that are required for right professional service.

- will be able to identify the connections between theory and practice.

 Applying knowledge and understanding

The student will be able to:

- plan and put into practice professional services taking aim to forensic purposes in the health care system or by judicial system;

- use evaluation tools appropriate to the different typology of the forensic professional service

 Making judgments

The student will be able to:

- critically analyze a free professional service ;

- critically analyze a professional service as subordinate employment;

- Choose the appropriate evaluation tools to a given context and the purpose of use.

 Communication skills

The student will be able to:

- draw up an complete and understandable and forensic professional ;

- communicate the results of the professional service using the appropriate technical language

Learning ability

The student will be able to:

- Deepen and update the knowledge and skills acquired, connecting them to the working reality.

-  Laws and rules regulating dentistry.

-  Professional conduct and the code of medical ethics

-  Principles of penal law: crime and imputability.

-  Offences against life and the person.

-  Relations with the judicial authority.

-  Medical certificates.

-  Consent to medical treatment, the emergency exception rule.

-  Principles of private law, medical malpractice litigation.

-  Elements of forensic pathology and thanatology
